Selling practice Wheels - Tpms Issues

As of September of 2008, all cars and light trucks sold in the United States have been required to be equipped a Tire Pressure Monitoring theory (Tpms). This theory alerts the driver if one or more of the tires goes below a safe bet air pressure level. You should make every exertion to assure that the Tpms theory continues to work with the tire and wheel holder you install.

The theory consists of a sensor mounted on each wheel and a receiver linked to the vehicle's computer. The sensor sends a signal to the computer and if the tire pressure is too low, a light on the dashboard is turned on.

In many cases you can plainly change the sensor from the factory wheel to the new wheel you are installing and the theory will continue to work. Some sensors are attached to the valve stem and some are attached directly to the center of the wheel with a band. Take extreme care when mounting and dismounting the tire so you don't damage the sensor. In some cases the buyer may want to keep the sensors in his old wheels. If so, you can buy new sensors and setup them in the new wheels.

In a few cases, the construct of the wheel may interfere with installing a sensor. This mainly happens with valve stem mounted sensors. You can whether buy a valve stem designed to hold the sensor at a separate angle or you can setup a band with a cradle that will hold the sensor. Both options should be ready from your provider and you may want to keep a set of each on hand.

After you have installed the wheels on the car, you will need to relearn the sensors. This just means that you are telling the vehicle's computer which sensor is in which wheel position. Instructions are commonly found in the owner's manual. It is also a good idea to replace the valve core and seals on a valve stem mounted unit when you turn the tire.

There are a few tools needed to properly aid Tms systems. The first thing you will need is a good aid manual. This will give details as to how to reset and reprogram sensors. Next is a Tpms tool, which is an electronic expedient used to test and reset sensors. There are several choices in separate price ranges, so check with your supplier. There are also a couple of specialized tools for removing sensors. You can buy a kit with all you'll need in it.

This is one area where you truly should try to get some type of training. These systems are not hard to service, but you do need to understand them. Your provider should be able to direct you in this area
